Teng Lee, MD
Assistant Professor of Surgery, Lead Physician, Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program
Teng C. Lee, M.D. is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and a lead physician in the Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He focuses on treating complex diseases of the thoracic aorta including aneurysms and dissections. Dr. Lee uses leading-edge technology such as minimally invasive endovascular, hybrid, and advanced cardiopulmonary perfusion techniques to protect the brain and other organs during surgery. In addition to complex thoracic aortic surgery, he also performs the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery.
His research interests include developing the next generation stent-graft technology and ischemia-reperfusion injury. Dr. Lee spent two years as the Dudley P. Allen Surgical Research Scholar during his general surgery residency, and has published numerous papers, including several book chapters.
Dr. Lee graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. He then went on to a general surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland before finishing his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Duke University.
He also completed a fellowship in Endovascular/Interventional Radiology at Skåne University Hospital (Lund University) in Malmö, Sweden and another fellowship in advanced aortic surgery, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support at Duke University before joining our faculty. Dr. Lee is one of only a handful of “hybrid” specialists fully cross-trained in both interventional and open surgical techniques for the treatment of complex thoracic aortic disease.
