Amber Johnson, MD

Amber E. Johnson, MD, MBA, is a cardiologist and is certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in addition to echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. She is an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed her internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center followed by her cardiovascular fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Dr. Johnson’s clinical interests include cardiovascular disease and echocardiography. She has published more than a dozen peer reviewed manuscripts on various topics pertaining to cardiac health and has received multiple awards, including the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health award from the National Minority Quality Forum and a grant from the National Institutes of Health. She is also a member of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Johnson is particularly engaged with working to improve health disparities in underserved communities. She recently collaborated with colleagues at UPMC, the University of Texas-Southwestern, and Duke University to publish an editorial in the Journal of the American Heart Association entitled “The Urgent and Ongoing Need for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity in the Cardiology Workforce in the United States.”
