Missy K. Atwood has over 20 years of experience in health law and health care-related litigation, including medical malpractice defense, physician anti-trust claims, credentialing lawsuits, and other litigation involving health care provider clients.  She represents hospitals, academic medical institutions, health care insurers, physicians, nurses, and other health care providers (as well as their affiliates) in all aspects of risk/claims management and operational and regulatory compliance.

Missy graduated cum laudefrom Baylor University in 1988 where she earned a B.A. in speech communication.  She received her J.D. in 1991 from Baylor University School of Law, cum laude, where she was also Lead Articles Editor and Notes and Comments Editor, Baylor Law Review.  Missy is licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Texas.  She is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  She is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and a member of the State Bar of Texas (Member of Health Law and Litigation Sections), Austin Bar Association, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, American Board of Trial Advocates and South Texas Society for Healthcare Risk Management.  

Missy practices in the areas of medical malpractice and health care operational and regulatory compliance (medical staff bylaws, provider credentialing, Joint Commission and Medicare conditions of participation standards, HIPAA/HITECH, EMTALA, nursing and physician peer review, HCQIA fair hearing proceedings, end of life/bioethics, professional licensing and disciplinary proceedings), insurance coverage, general civil litigation and pharmaceutical products liability.
