Chang

A skilled plastic surgeon, David Chang, MD, specializes in reconstructive surgery in cancer patients. His specific interest and expertise has been in treatment of lymphedema -- chronic swelling of the limbs that occurs in some patients who undergo cancer surgery with lymph node removal and/or receive radiation therapy. Dr. Chang has helped develop and promote procedures such as lymphaticovenular bypass and vascularized lymph node transfers using a surgical microscope to improve the lymphatic drainage. Dr. Chang also has expertise in breast reconstruction and other areas of post-oncologic reconstruction

Dr. Chang has served as the principal investigator on several clinical studies of complex reconstructive microsurgery in cancer patients. His work was instrumental in introducing lymphaticovenular bypass and lymph node transfer to U.S. operating rooms.

Dr. Chang is the author of several leading book chapters and more than 90 peer-reviewed research articles. In addition, Dr. Chang serves as an editorial board member for leading scientific journals including Annals of Plastic Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He frequently is invited to speak at national and international conferences on oncologic reconstructive surgery, and has been invited as a visiting professor at leading medical centers worldwide.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Chang has served as a faculty mentor for medical student, residents and clinical and research fellows. Since 2001, Best Doctors Inc. has named Dr. Chang one of the Best Doctors in America.
