John Blair, MD

Assistant Professor of Medicine

Blair

John Blair, MD, FACC, is cardiologist who specializes in the care of complex coronary artery disease, mitral and aortic valve disease and congestive heart failure. Dr. Blair performs a wide range of procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, including radial artery catheterization, balloon angioplasty, coronary stent placement, rotational orbital and excimer laser atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound and optical coherence tomography imaging and treatment of chronic total occlusions (CTOs).

He utilizes his experience in echocardiography and interventional cardiology in performing transcatheter mitral valve repair (MitraClip) procedures. As a member of the Heart and Vascular Center’s valve team, he is integral to the evaluation and treatment of aortic and mitral stenosis, utilizing techniques such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and percutaneous balloon aortic and mitral valvuloplasty.

Dr. Blair is one of few cardiologists who perform coronary physiology studies, which aid in diagnosing coronary microvascular dysfunction in a range of challenging clinical scenarios. His research interests focus on coronary microvascular dysfunction in patients with various cardiovascular conditions, including heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).

Prior to joining the University of Chicago Medicine, Dr. Blair was a Major in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, where he served as staff cardiologist at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
