Proton Therapy for Low-Grade Gliomas

In this presentation, Robert Lustig, MD, Professor of Clinical Radiation Oncology at Penn Medicine, considers the application of proton therapy (PT) to the treatment of low-grade gliomas. Dr. Lustig’s discussion includes an explanation of the comparative advantages of PT vs intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for irradiation of the brain, an introduction to the Roberts Proton Therapy Center, and a discussion of PT treatment for low-grade gliomas, including a symptom-assessment study performed at Penn that found generally milder and briefer episodes of nausea, headache, fatigue and anorexia for PT.
