Sepsis Update for the Pregnant Patient

Dr. Louis Pacheco explains why sepsis continues to be the most frequent cause of death in intensive care units. He presents why the mortality rate is 30% for severe sepsis and up to 50% for septic shock.

Target Audience:

All medical staff practitioners who provide care to patients with sepsis or are working in an intensive care unit.

Educational objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the definition and pathophysiology of sepsis
  • Know the latest therapeutic interventions in the management of severe sepsis
  • Acknowledge the applications and limitations of such therapies in the pregnant patient
