This talk will present you with the basics of antimicrobial stewardship, particularly for the hospital setting. Topics include: why antimicrobial is necessary, negative consequences of antimicrobial use including antimicrobial resistance and C. difficile infection, and the principles of optimal antimicrobial use. We will walk through the “Core Elements of Antimicrobial Stewardship” from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and provide examples of the core elements.
