University of Colorado Hospital trauma: Devyn Brinkerhoff

When Devyn Brinkerhoff’s car hit black ice on a rural Wyoming road, she was thrown 20 feet from the vehicle and suffered a devastating array of injuries, including a collapsed lung, a broken pelvis, and perforations of her liver, kidneys, and spleen.

Because the small hospital near her home could not handle such a severe case, she was airlifted to University of Colorado Hospital, where a dedicated team of surgeons and other medical professionals saved her life. This was just the beginning of a story which, instead of ending in tragedy, became a tale of courage, love, and hope.
