Working together to reduce trauma deaths and injuries

Daniel Stephens, M.D., a trauma surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and chair of the Southern Minnesota Regional Trauma Advisory Council (SMRTAC), describes the work of SMRTAC. The council is a collaboration of 25 agencies — including EMS agencies, law enforcement, state trauma designation coordinators and hospitals — located throughout 21 counties in southern Minnesota that provide seamless trauma care and resources across the continuum from pre-injury education to rehabilitation. Dr. Stephens describes how this partnership is working together to reduce death and injury from trauma.
