José-Alain Sahel, MD

Dr. Sahel practices at the University of Pittsburgh Physicians, Department of Ophthalmology, and is affiliated with UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Presbyterian, and UPMC Mercy. He completed his fellowships at Clinique Ophtalmologique, Louis Pasteur University Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, residencies at Louis Pasteur University Hospital, Clinique Ophtalmologique, and A de Rothschild Ophthalmology Foundation, and medical degree at Paris VII University.

Dr. Sahel is a clinician-scientist conducting research on vision restoration focusing on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying retinal degeneration and development of treatments for currently untreatable retinal diseases. He co-authored over 680 peer-reviewed articles and 40 patents.
