The Importance of Phase I Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are among the most powerful tools for creating a cancer-free world. "To me, they are the way to see the light at the end of the tunnel," says Claire Verschraegen, MD, director of the Division of Medical Oncology at Ohio State and associate director for translational research at the OSUCCC – James. In this episode, Verschraegen explains the four phases of clinical trials—with an emphasis on phase 1, her specialty—and how these phases can lead to new FDA-approved drugs that improve outcomes for patients.
