Interventional Pulmonology: How We Help Along the Patient Journey

Andrew Haas, MD, examines the role of the interventional pulmonologist in the diagnosis and management of patients with lung cancer. In discussing the former, Dr. Hass focuses on endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). A relatively recent innovation, EBUS is used for both observation and biopsy in the pulmonary tree, and continues to evolve to permit exploration of the furthest and smallest regions of the lung. The latter portion of his discussion is devoted to the practices interventional pulmonologists use to help lung cancer patients experiencing pleural effusion and/or airway blockage as a result of lung cancer and its treatment.
