Lung cancer statistics in the United States are staggering, despite the fact that it is not as well-known as other cancers such as breast, colon or prostate. The overall lifetime risk of developing lung cancer is 1 in 13 for men, and 1 in 16 for women. Smoking is responsible for 90 percent of male lung cancers and 80 percent of female lung cancers.
