“We are pleased Dr. Friedman has joined Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute as our medical director of sports cardiology,” said Jonathon Fialkow, M.D., deputy director of the Institute, chief of cardiology and co-medical director of the lipid management program. “Sports cardiology is a new discipline in cardiovascular care, and Dr. Friedman is one of only a few cardiologists with expertise in this area. His unique skill set will be an asset to our patients and team.”

“The cardiac needs of athletes are quite different from those of the general population,” said Dr. Friedman. “I will bring an individualized approach to each patient’s plan of care so that they can perform at their best.”

Dr. Friedman joins Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute from Memorial Health System. There, he served as the chief of cardiac services at Memorial Regional Hospital and the system’s medical director of sports cardiology.

Dr. Friedman is the team cardiologist for Nova Southeastern University. Since 2018, he has helped develop the Heart of a Champion program through a partnership with OneBeat CPR and AED and the American Heart Association. This program teaches trainees – including coaches, student-athletes and athletic administrators – how to recognize and respond to cardiac arrest in a sports setting.

Dr. Friedman earned his medical degree from The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
