Surgical Services at Fremont Specialty Clinic

General surgery is now available at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals specialty clinic in Fremont, two Mondays every month. Surgeon Aaron Jensen, MD, joins UCSF specialists in cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology and other disciplines, to offer East Bay families convenient care for their children.

The Fremont clinic is located at 19 00 Mo wry Ave., Suite 1, Fremont, CA 94538. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (877) UC-CHILD or (877) 822-4453.

Awake Botox Treatment for Pediatric Neurogenic Bladder

Administration of bladder Botox treatment without general anesthesia is now available for children with neurogenic bladder who do not respond to, or cannot tolerate, anticholinergic medication such as oxybutynin. The treatment entails using a cystoscope to administer Botox into the child’s bladder. After anesthetizing the bladder, the Botox is injected into the bladder wall. The Botox works to relax the bladder for 3 to 6 months and then wears off, when the procedure is repeated.

Awake bladder Botox treatment is available at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals San Francisco campus.

For more information about Botox treatment for neurogenic bladder conditions, call (877) UC-CHILD or (877) 822-4453, or email Hillary L. Copp, MD, MS, at hillary.copp@ucsf.edu.

Fetal Evaluation and Treatment for High-Risk Pregnancies

Comprehensive fetal evaluation and treatment are available for women with high-risk pregnancies at both UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals campuses, including fetal surgery when needed at the San Francisco campus. This type of evaluation may indicate a need for newborn surgery or advanced medical therapy and thereby enable the team to prepare in advance for treatment after birth.

Experts from numerous subspecialties at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals provide input for the care plan for each patient.

Patients for whom an evaluation may be indicated include those with the following conditions:

  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia
  • Abdominal wall defects (gastroschisis and omphalocele)
  • Lung abnormalities
  • Congenital cardiac abnormalities
  • Sacrococcygeal teratoma
  • Choledochal cyst
  • Intestinal atresia

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (877) UC-CHILD or (877) 822-4453.
