Research Improves Treatment for Patients with High Cholesterol

Mayo Clinic's statin intolerance clinic was created to treat patients with statin-associated adverse effects. Statins are commonly used for the treatment of high cholesterol. Classic patient reactions to statins, however, include muscle aches, cramps and weakness. Cardiologist Stephen Kopecky, M.D., discusses genetic testing that may allow physicians to predict the drugs and dosages most effective for each patient.
